Watch a 16-Year Old’s Amazing Elvis Presley ‘Blue Christmas’ Cover

Ever since Elvis Presley‘s death in 1977, impersonating the King has become a cottage industry. But we can’t recall the last time we’ve seen a teenage Canadian do it this well.

Earlier this week, David Thibault, a 16-year-old kid living in Quebec, appeared on CKOI Radio in Quebec City armed with an acoustic guitar and a sneer. He launched into a rendition of Presley’s holiday staple ‘Blue Christmas’ that belied his young age.

But it wasn’t just the vocal similarity; his guitar part was copped from Presley’s take on the song from the ’68 Comeback Special. All that’s missing is the leather suit. The ’68 Comeback Special was originally intended to be a Christmas special, but director Steve Binder had other ideas, and ‘Blue Christmas’ wound up being the sole concession to the original concept. The broadcast kick-started Presley’s career after a few stagnant years in Hollywood, and he spent the remaining eight-and-a-half years of his life as a top concert draw, both on the road and in residency in Las Vegas.

To date, the clip of Thibault’s performance — which you can watch above — has garnered more than 2.2 million views on YouTube.
