All Aboard

My co-worker Anne James did a great blog this week on National Train Day coming up this Saturday, May 12th. After reading Anne's blog, I decided to put through a call to Marc Magliari out in Chicago. Marc's the media relations manager for Amtrak and he's always a great guest. I like him because: (1) he's an old radio man, and (2) he loves trains as much as I do. Marc's no stranger to Shelby, he's been through here on the Empire Builder and time or two himself. Saturday's National Train Day marks the 143rd anniversary of the creation of the nation's first transcontinental railroad. They drove the "golden spike" in Promontory Summit, Utah on May 10th, 1869. It marked 1,176 miles of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways, forever transforming the face and character of America.
