The Shelby Recycling Association hosts a paper recycling challenge at Shelby Elementary School to celebrate  America Recycles DaySM

Shelby-MT-10-29-13 – On Friday, November 15 the Shelby Recycling Association will host a paper recycling challenge atShelbyElementary Schooljoining thousands of local organizers holding recycling events across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day, a national initiative by Keep America Beautiful and the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in theUnited States. This year’s America Recycles Day theme, “I Want To Be Recycled,” will help to educate people about the importance of recycling to our economy and environmental well-being as well as motivate occasional recyclers to become everyday recyclers.

Shelby Elementary students and staff are challenged to bring their recycled paper toShelbyElementary Schoolon America Recycles Day –November 15, 2013.  That morning recycling members will give a short presentation on recycling to each class. They will also weigh the amount of paper individual classes bring to recycle.  The grade with the largest volume of recycled paper will win a roller skating party compliments of the City ofShelby.   Paper accepted includes white paper, envelopes, colored paper, newspapers, magazines and phone books.  As part of Recycle Shelby, they ask that you keep the white paper separate from the other paper for disposal at the recycling site.  Shelby High School National Honor Society students will assist the recycling association in getting the paper to the recycling site.

The national recycling rate is currently at 34.7 percent. Recycling 75 percent of the nation’s waste would create nearly 1.5 million jobs by 2030, according to a report by the Tellus Institute with Sound Resource Management.

“We are very proud supporters of the Shelby Recycling Association’s America Recycles Day event and commend their efforts to promote recycling inShelby. Recycling is the easiest thing we can all do to improve our community, conserve natural resources and create green jobs.  Collectively, through events like these, we aim to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year,” said Brenda Pulley, Senior Vice President of Recycling at Keep America Beautiful and national program manager for America Recycles Day.
