After two seasons of FX's supernatural thriller 'American Horror Story,' we know that series creator Ryan Murphy enjoys switching up the roles of his recurring cast members. Recent CCTV Award-winner Sarah Paulson went from a sly medium in season 1 to a hardened, intrepid reporter in 'Asylum,' so could 'American Horror Story: Coven' paint Paulson as the villain this time around?

According to Paulson herself, her new character in the third round of FX's acclaimed horror series will prove quite different from Lana Winters, whose journey became the focal point of 'Asylum' across a fifty-year span. Paulson spoke to The Hollywood Reporter of her new role in 'American Horror Story: Coven,' which once again changes up her characters relation to series staple Jessica Lange:

Definitely different. Basically, she's going to look different, and my relationship to Jessica Lange is going to be quite different this time. At the beginning of last season, no one knew that Lana would be the hero, so it's possible I could end up the evil one this year. As of right now, there will be some of Lana Winters' qualities in my character, but I don't know for sure.

From what we do know, the witchy third season will be set in the modern day across several cities (but primarily New Orleans), and will occasionally dip back into the past as the story requires. Showrunner Ryan Murphy also teased that ‘Coven’ will have a love story similar to the one between Violet and Tate in the first season, but the creator has kept silent on many of the returning actors' roles.

Premiering this fall, ‘American Horror Story: Coven’ will also welcome newcomers Emma Roberts, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, Gabourey Sidibe and Kathy Bates, along with returning franchise regulars Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Taissa Farmiga, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson. Prior series stars Zachary Quinto and Dylan McDermott have not been confirmed to return, and may sit the third round out if scheduling falls through.

So, what say you? Would you be interested to see Sarah Paulson take on a more villainous role when 'American Horror Story: Coven' premieres on FX this fall?
