New week? New Athletes...

KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week were huge factors in helping their teams advance in the playoffs and both are from Fairfield this week.

Some hitters in volleyball may take half a season to pile up 49 kills, it took Eagles' middle hitter, Natalie Klinker just one day. Klinker's play led the Eagles to a third-place win over Shelby and then a grueling three to two win over Choteau in the first championship of the Northern B Divisional tournament last weekend. Fairfield also took Choteau to a full five games in the second championship before losing three to two. Klinker had an amazing 21 kills in that first championship and17 in the second. She also recorded ten blocks in the three matches. Fairfield coach Courtney Bake says it really has been just the past two weeks that Klinker has started hitting solid and making great contact, just in time for tournaments. The all-state basketball and volleyball player is a talented athlete who not only jumps well to be able to drive down on the ball, coach Bake points out that she is "quick too".

Our male Athlete of the Week is Fairfield senior quarterback Luke Batson and has put together a string of big games leading the Eagles to the semifinals of the State B playoffs and a shot at a second straight championship. In the win over Manhattan on the road last weekend, Batson rushed 20 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns. He was 10-16 through the air for 167 yards and one touchdown. Batson capped all that off with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown. Coach Les Meyer says his senior quarterback is a nice kid, a good student, a good citizen of the hallways and comes out to do his best every day.

We also had two nominations this week from the Valier Panthers who continue their playoff run. Colton Curry who had three catches for touchdowns in Valier's win over Richey-Lambert and Colton Wheeler who passed for one touchdown and ran for another...returned a kick for a touchdown and had an interception for a touchdown.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96-Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week; senior Natalie Klinker of Fairfield and Luke Batson of Fairfield. Our Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonalds in Cut Bank. McDonalds honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
