I am a native Montanan, married to a native Montanan with two daughters. We have lived in Cut Bank since the 90s, we raised two lovely daughters who both live in Las Vegas. My husband, Bob works at Torgerson's in Ethridge.
We had to sort through a pile of nominations to pick our male athlete of the week, on the female side, just one nomination, but still a quality pick.
After sorting through that pile, we could not deny the numbers put up by Heart Butte senior Chasen Kipp, who broke the state record in yards rushing (again) with 592 yards and eight touchdowns. The talented athlete also caught two touchdown passes and returned a punt 68 yards for a touchdown, for a grand total of eleven. According to the Montana High School Association record book that’s also a state record for total touchdowns in a single game. This second time athlete of the week totaled an inconceivable 717 total yards in Heart Butte’s win over Box Elder 70 to 64.
KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week once again beat out a talented field of nominees.
If you’re running the ball against the CJI Hawks, you’d better stay clear of middle linebacker Brett Henke. Henke recorded 16 tackles in the Hawks’ win last week over conference foe, Centerville, and while for most defenders that would be one huge night, coach Jim Vinson says his senior standout is averaging about that many. Henke also had one interception and 11 of those 16 tackles were solo stops. On the offensive side, the fullback-type runner had 150 yards on 29 carries, 94 kick return yards and one touchdown. It was Henke’s fifth gave in a row with more than 100 yards and in two of those games he was over 200.
