Amnesty International is one of the world’s foremost organizations dedicated to the preservation of human rights and the prevention of grave injustice.

So it only stands to reason that in order to celebrate Amnesty’s 50th anniversary, someone decided to put together an album of Bob Dylan covers — even if it’s a little odd that they invited pop stars like Kesha and Miley Cyrus to join the roster of artists lending their pipes to the rock legend’s classic songs.

To her credit, Ke$ha — who will cover ‘Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right’ — understands some people might take issue with her presence on the album. Speaking with NME, she said, “When you think of me, you wouldn’t think of Bob Dylan. My music is more about the going crazy than politics. But he’s a huge influence — he writes his own music and means what he says. I write my own music and I f—ing mean every word I sing.”

The compilation, titled ‘Chimes Of Freedom: Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International,’ is due in early 2012, and will also feature performances by Adele, Sting, The Dave Matthews Band, Patti Smith and My Morning Jacket.
