It's going to be chaotic again, getting ready, but it's always worth it in the end. I'm speaking about our Athlete of the Year Banquet which will be at the Shelby Elks Club, Wed. May 11th. We have lined up our featured speaker for this year's event. Mark Samson, the Head Football Coach at M-S-U Northern in Havre. He has been coaching in Montana since 1982 and is the first Coach to take the Havre School to the N-A-I-A playoffs, back in 2006. He has also been recruiting heavily in our area and in fact his starting Quarterback last year is one of our former Athlete's of the Year. Derek Lear, who couldn't make it to the banquet when he was a Sr. because he was playing in the State Golf Tournament.
By the way......any thoughts on this year's Athlete of the year? Usually we choose someone who excels in three sports but not always. I recall more than any Loni Perkins of Conrad whose accomplishments in Track & Field were so outstanding that she was named our Athlete of the Year.
Each week, in conjunction with Bozeman Trophy, we select from many nominations the Athlete of the Week. This is an outstanding selection of male and female athletes who have excelled beyond expectations and provided inspiration and leadership to their team mates and their school
Our Athlete of the Week this week is a repeat of LAST week, another great athletic accomplishment in a new week by the Coyote's Chase White.
Our Athletes of the Week this week are seasoned players on their teams - Senior Chase White of Shelby and Senior Skylar Steinbach of the State Champion Fairfield Eagles.
Athlete of the Week honors this week go to Sophomore Tiegan Johnson of Dutton/Brady and Freshman Jill Barta of the Fairfield Eagles:
According to the Independent Record of Helena:
It may just be Carroll College’s first season with a track and field program, but already the school is making big waves in the recruiting waters.
The Saints announced Thursday the signing of Deni Fitzpatrick, arguably the most sought after track athlete in the Treasure State this year
This week, the honors go to a male and female athletes whose teams won their District Championship. A Junior from CJI and a senior from Power.

More specifically, deciding on an Athlete of the Week this week. I have received several nominations from fans and parents in the last 3 weeks and I really appreciate it. It's tough to pick an Athlete when you don't see or hear about the games first hand and see only a box score.
