A local Florida teacher took discipline to a whole new (read: bizarre) level last week when she reportedly taped her chatty student's mouth shut with packing tape.

13-year-old seventh grader Jazlyn Freel claims the incident took place during a routine science class.

"She asked me to stop talking, and then a couple minutes went by, and I started to talk again, and she came to me and put it on my mouth," she said. "I had to cough, so I took the first piece off, so she went into her desk, and she took another piece out, and she put it on my mouth again."

Let it be a warning for the charity-minded to be on the lookout for phony aid appeals. FBI spokeswoman Jenny Shearer says one fraudulent scheme involves an e-mail claiming to be from the British Red Cross and seeks donations via wire transfers. Acting on tips from informants, soldiers in Colombia have seized a 99-foot fully submersible submarine that was intended to be used for drug smuggling.

The fiberglass boat had enough room for eight tons of drugs and a crew of six, and enough power to make the eight-or- nine-day trip from Columbia to Mexico totally underwater.

It hasn’t been uncommon for Colombian authorities to catch narco-traffickers with semi-submersible submarines, but smugglers using fully submersible subs is more unusual. It is estimated the sub cost two million dollars to build.
