The Scotty Brown Fire started Monday, August 10th at 3:00pm and is located near Ovando, MT. The lightning-caused fire is currently at 23 acres with 20% containment. River Junction Road is closed to non-emergency traffic. A few structures were evacuated but the fire is now a low threat to these structures. The fire is burning in very difficult terrain with active fire behavior and spot fires. State and local resources are on the fire including a DNRC helicopter, heavy equipment and the Deer Lodge Fire Crew. A Type 2 Hand Crew is expected to arrive later this evening. Firefighter and public safety is the number one priority.

Travelers on Highway 200 are asked to be cautious of fire traffic entering and exiting in the area.

It’s very hot and dry out, be extremely careful with any ignitable sources that could start a fire and put firefighters at unnecessary risk.
