Fan Catches Two HR Balls…and Gives Them Away

There’s more to baseball than statistics. Sometimes the biggest story of the game is not even what happened on the field. Caleb Lloyd was just another fan in the bleachers until the 4th inning of last night’s Reds-Braves game, and today he’s the talk of Cincinnati…and the internet.

The 20-year old college sophomore caught back-to-back home run balls, hit by Reds starting pitcher Mike Leake and shortstop Zack Cozart. That earned him a trip to the broadcast booth, where he admitted that he didn’t didn’t think twice about giving away his souvenirs.

Lloyd gave Leake’s ball back to him, because “I knew it was Leake’s first major league home run. I just want to meet him and shake his hand”, he told interviewers, adding that if Leake wanted to sweeten the deal with an autographed ball, he’d accept it. The second ball went to Lloyd’s friend, who had invited him to the game. You can watch the interview HERE….he even gives a shout out to his mom.
