The Agricultural Opportunities Tour is a three-day trip that takes place in the summer, allowing FFA students to visit the agricultural highlights of a certain region of our state. This June, the Montana FFA Foundation held their 6th annual Agricultural Opportunities Tour in easternMontana. The tour started inBillings, making its way throughMilesCity andSidney before heading back toBillings.

The Agricultural Opportunities Tour is available to all Montana FFA members who choose to apply. Students on this year’s trip varied from Stevensville, Beaverhead, Roundup, Big Timber and several other FFA chapters. FFA members from around the state were able to interact with local producers, research facility specialists, and sponsors of the FFA in a collaborative learning environment.

The tour began on Thursday, June 26th, where the students headed straight to Origen Genetic Services from Billings to learn about semen collection, and the global cattle semen industry. That afternoon the students got to visit Fort Keogh, as well as the Range Riders Museum upon arrival in Miles City. The second day of the tour was spent in Sidney, where the students had the opportunity to tour a man-camp and oilrig in the surrounding area. The students were also able to visit local producer Dynneson Ranch & Feedlot, and spend the evening visiting with their family over dinner about their operation and history. The Ag. Tour wrapped up on Saturday the 28th, where students spent the afternoon at Torgerson’s inBillings, enjoying lunch and learning more about Torgerson’s family owned business and how it operates.

The Montana FFA State Officer team was in attendance of the Ag. Tour, acting as representatives from the state association. Allie Nelson, this years State FFA 2nd Vice President, believed the Ag Tour was a very special trip for FFA members to be a part of. “The Montana Agricultural Opportunities Tour was such an enriching experience. I obtained so much information that I am able to take back to my chapter, and I am very grateful for the FFA Foundation and sponsors for believing in the importance of agriculture and the knowledge of commodities in Montana.”

The Ag Tour shifts its focus annually to a different region of the state. With each year, comes another opportunity for students to learn about the agricultural highlights that our great state possesses. This tour would not have been possible without the support of co-sponsors Torgerson’s and the Montana Agriculture Business Association.
