According to Shelby Fire Chief Ron Buck, Due to a "valiant effort by area firefighters" there were no structures lost in a fire that started yesterday afternoon east of Shelby along US Highway 2. Firefighters from Shelby, Sunburst, Cut Bank, Conrad, Chester and a helicopter from the DNRC.
The fire did end up consuming about 1100 acres of CRP and rangeland east of Shelby - right along the highway. I drove that section this morning and it's about 1.5 miles long.

There are a number of homes and other structures that could certainly have fallen victim to the fire with out the quick response and expertise of local firefighters. Kudos to you all as well as area farmers that responded by providing "tons of water" for the effort.
