Guns N’ Roses Storm Back to No. 3 on Album Sales Chart

Greatest Hits
Geffen Records

Last week fans of Guns N’ Roses could buy the band’s ‘Greatest Hits’ album for less than a movie theater gumball. The result: a 572 percent surge in sales for the 14 song collection, good enough for the No. 3 spot on Billboard’s album sales chart for the week.

Approximately 80,000 people threw a quarter in the fountain for the chance to own digital versions of the popular (and controversial) band’s biggest hits.

The 25-cent sale at Google Music and Amazon lasted just three days. However, that was enough time to allow the album to surpass Bruce Springsteen, whose ‘Wrecking Ball’ dipped to No. 4 after topping the charts the previous week with over 196,000 sold.

British boy-band One Direction debuted at No. 1 this week, followed by Adele‘s ’21′ which has now been off the top of the charts for two straight weeks after a near-record 23 week run at the top.

‘Greatest Hits’ was originally released in 2004, and includes hits like ‘November Rain,’ ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ and ‘Patience’ in addition to covers of such such as the Rolling Stones‘ ‘Sympathy For the Devil.’ Fans are hoping for a greatest hits reunion from Axl Rose, Slash and the rest of the band’s classic lineup at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 14 in Cleveland. However, according to a recent statement from the guitarist, they shouldn’t be holding their breath.
