I'm blogging about author & oceanographer John Englander's new book that anticipated Superstorm Hurricane Sandy. In fact, just 1 week BEFORE Superstorm Sandy hit, ocean expert Englander released his book "High Tide On Main Street: Rising Sea Level and the Coming Coastal Crisis"! Englander says as the eastern seaboard begins the painful recovery process after Sandy's devastation, it is important to see the larger picture of why this happened, what the other likely future impacts are, & what we can do. He accurately explains why sea level has barely changed for the last 6,000 years, causing us to think the coastline is fixed. He talks about why devastating economic effects will NOT be limited to the coasts. The vulnerabilities of cities as diverse as Boston, Sacramento, & Seattle & dozens of others. Although we are "landlocked" here in the north central Montana, this book is more than interesting & somewhat frightening as he writes that sea level will rise for at least 1,000 years, shorelines will shift significantly by 2050, & property values may start to decline THIS decade. "High Tide On Main Street: Rising Sea Level and the Coming Coastal Crisis is available at Amazon in print & Kindle; also for Barnes & Noble's Nook. Check it out at: http://www.hightideonmainstreet.com AND http://johnenglander.net. After pursuing this read, I'm glad that I wear my pants hitched up high above my waistline! I've done it for years...I'm the Puffman.
