It was a no-stress week in picking the KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week.

Two athletes whose teams advanced in a big way to the next level, were simply exceptional.

Female athlete of the week honors go to Shelby senior, Sydnee Salveson, who led the Coyotes to the Northern Division Volleyball Championship. Coyote head coach Ron Buck had high praise for his middle hitter, saying it may have been the best performance, at that position, he's ever coached. Coach Buck said "I couldn't have asked for any more, it was an almost perfect performance." And the numbers bore out those accolades! Sydnee had 13 kills in the second round win over Choteau and tallied 38 for the weekend. She also led the team with nine aces and nine blocks. Buck called his senior hitter a "spark plug and a leader on the floor all weekend long as Shelby, for the first time in years, won a divisional championship and will take the number one seed into the state B tournament this week.

In regard to our male athlete of the week, Grass Range/Winnett head football coach TJ Smith expressed my thoughts exactly. "At six foot seven and over 200 pounds, he's just hard to cover." Smith was talking about Colten Curry, who grabbed nine balls for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Ranger defenders did cover Curry pretty well, but they just couldn't deal with that height. With that said, it's not just the height, Curry has soft hands and is extremely fast for a player that big. He also had three interceptions which were key to the Panther victory. Valier now advances to the semi-finals against Westby-Grenora this weekend in Valier. The Panthers made it to the semi-finals last year also and are excited about taking that next step to a six-man championship game.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week, senior, Sydnee Salveson of Shelby and senior, Colten Curry of Valier. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athletes with two free value meals each.

And we encourage fans, coaches, teammates and parents to nominate athletes of the week. If you think they’ve had an exceptional performance email me at mark.daniels@townsquaremedia.com.
