LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

KSEN/ K96—Bozeman Trophy/KSEN Athletes of the week both hail from Conrad this week, or, more specifically, COMPETE for Conrad.

Our male Athlete of the Week was also a key component on the Cowboys playoff run in football. Junior, Daylon Jay, is now using his raw speed on the track.

At the Fairfield/Belt Invitational last Friday, Jay turned in a victory in the 100 meter dash with an impressive 11.9 and was second in the 200 meter and anchored the winning 400 Relay and 2nd place in the 1600 meter relay. He went 20 feet into the pit to win the long jump as well. The very next day, Daylon took second in the Havre Lions Invitational in the 100 and, with better competition, but down his time to 11.5. He placed second in the long jump and again anchored the Conrad 400 Meter relay team to a 2nd place finish.

Our female athlete of the week is Conrad/Choteau Sophomore Tristin Achenbach. Among the 100 plus batters that Tristin faced in the past week, 92 of them couldn't get the bat on the ball enough to put it in play. That's the number of strike-outs she recorded in 7 games in the past week. She picked up six wins in that run with Class A Belgrade the only team able to pick up three hits in the game and two earned runs to get a victory. Achenbach is also competent with the bat. In the Belgrade tournament, she knocked in the game-winning hit, a two RBI single giving Conrad the 2 to 1 victory over Polson. Against Shelby Tuesday night, Achenbach struck-out 12, gave up no walks and allowed no hits. Only two runners reached base. And in another conference victory last week, Achenbach struck-out 19 in a 2 to 1 victory over Cut Bank.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Junior Daylon Jay of Conrad and Sophomore Tristin Achenbach who is from Choteau, but plays for Conrad in the Co-operative softball program.

The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonalds in Cut Bank. McDonalds rewards our athletes with two free value meals each.
