LOCAL SPORTS – “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

(UNDATED) – KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK LED THEIR TEAMS TO HUGE VICTORIES, IN ONE CASE OVER THE 4TH RANKED TEAM IN CLASS A AND IN THE OTHER CASE IT MEANT THE END OF A LONG LOSING STREAK.

THE SHELBY LADY COYOTES ARE ON A ROLL WITH 4 STRAIGHT WINS IN A ROW, INCLUDING A CONVINCING WIN OVER THE 4TH RANKED TEAM IN CLASS A, THE BROWNING LADY INDIANS.

OUR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HAD 19 POINTS IN THAT CONTEST AND SR. SKYLER MARTIN ALSO NAILED 7-10 FREE THROWS IN THE 4TH QUARTER TO ICE THE VICTORY.   1ST YEAR HEAD COACH MAC McDERMOTT SAYS HE’S MOST PLEASED WITH THE LOW NUMBER OF TURNOVERS SKYLER HAS COMMITTED WHILE RUNNING THE OFFENSE WHERE SHE’S HANDLING THE BALL ABOUT 90-PERCENT OF THE TIME.

SHE WAS VERY CONSISTENT IN SCORING IN THE PAST 3 GAMES AVERAGING OVER 14-POINTS A GAME AND WAS ALSO GETTING HER SHARE OF REBOUNDS.   WITH SHELBY’S SUCCESS, THE CAREER BEST 21 POINTS FROM JR. BAILY JOHNSON DID NOT GO UNNOTICED.

OUR MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HAS ALSO BEEN A CONSISTENT SCORER EARLY IN THE SEASON, AVERAGING ABOUT 16-POINTS A GAME, BUT SOPHOMORE RYLAN DOHENY OF DUTTON/BRADY, WENT ABOVE THE AVERAGE FRIDAY NIGHT AS THE DIAMONDBACKS ENDED A 22 GAME LOSING STREAK.

DOHENY, IN FACT, RECORDED A TRIPLE-DOUBLE WITH 21-POINTS, 14-REBOUNDS AND 14-BLOCKS.  THE 6-3 SOPHOMORE IS AVERAGING ABOUT 6-BLOCKS A GAME.   1ST YEAR HEAD COACH TYSON ANDERSON SAYS DOHENY IS A TEAM CAPTAIN AND LEADER ON THE FLOOR.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK.   SR. SKYLER MARTIN OF SHELBY AND SO. RYLAN DOHENY OF DUTTON/BRADY.  THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS SPONSORED LOCALLY BY McDONALD’S IN CUT BANK.  McDONALD’S HONORS OUR ATHLETE’S WITH TWO FREE VALUE MEALS EACH.
