( BozemaUNDATED)—KSEN/K96 – Bozeman Trophy Athletes of hte week are athletes wholse names we heard a lot in the fall and we also will in the winter... only the sport has changed

Valier senior Mariah Stoltz gets her second Athlete of the Week selection after opening the girls' basketball season in style with twenty points and twenty five rebounds.

Stoltz also added four assists and five steals to the opening game numbers. Valier coach Robert Swanson says Stoltz, a four year starter, just keeps getting better and always plays hard. Stoltz is leading a team that coach Swanson quickly points out, is a rare team with five starting seniors, all with a lot of experience. He's thinking that it could keep the Lady Panthers in the thick of things for a district Championship and possible deep into the tournaments beyond that.

Male Athlete of the Week honors go to a Cut Bank athlete coming off a strong football season that saw the Wolves finish second in the 1B and make the first round of the playoffs. Jace Berkram has now traded in his football uniform for a much lighter wrestling suit and a few more pounds than a year ago. Berkram won the championship at the very competitive Havre Invitational at 170 pounds Saturday. Berkram wrestled at 145 pounds and is now set at 170 for his senior season. Cut Bank coach Cody Fetters says the added weight and strength is partly due to a strong summer work ethic where he hit the weights hard and attended an Arizona State wrestling camp that certainly taught him a few things.

Berkram defeated Great Falls High's Chase Short in the championship match and coach Fetters notes he had lost to Short in pool wrestling the day before Jace changed a few tactics adn picked up the five - three decision for the championship.

Also nominated this week, junior Taner Stone of Choteau who had four pins in a time of 5:43 at the Cascade Invitational and won the Championship at 160 with a win over another state placer from last year Ben Rauscher of Conrad.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week - senior Mariah Stoltz of Valier and senior Jace Berkram of Cut Bank. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonalds of Cut Bank. McDonalds provides our athletes with two free value meals each.
