(SHELBY)—KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week both hail from Shelby this week as the Coyotes got their first win on the football field and two straight conference wins on the volleyball court.

The Coyote football team had some great defensive efforts int heir first two games of the year, but everyone knew they had to start scoring some points. Welcome senior quarterback, Aaron White, coming off an injury and leading the Coyotes to a score on their first drive of the night against Malta. With senior running back Zach Torgerson still injured, the Coyotes stayed in the air with White hitting 29 of 56 attempts for three touchdowns. He also ran for two short scores and the Coyotes win their conference opener 37-22. Head coach Mike White noted it was good to have Aaron back and he didn't seem to "miss a beat." The coach also noted it's been a long time since the Coyotes have beaten Malta, always a strong team.

Our female athlete of the week, junior Skyler Martin of Shelby, when asked about a possible nomination, head coach Rock Buck didn't hesitate. Martin was a key factor in the Coyote conference wins over Fairfield and Cut Bank.

From the service line, the three year starter put 45 of 47 serves in play and that included a team best, ten aced. She added 30 assists and 17 digs, but maybe more impressive than anything, thirteen kills. Second behind only Brittany Brusven in that category. Skyler might be one of the shortest players on the court, but she doesn't let that stop her from knocking down sixty percent of her opportunities at the net.

We also gave strong consideration this week to Cut Bank junior quarterback JR Seewald, who ran for 186 yards and three touchdowns and passed for a score in the Wolves' conference win over Conrad.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week, senior Aaron White and junior Skyler Martin both of Shelby.  The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald's of Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athletes with two free value meals each.

And we encourage fans, coaches, teammates and parents to nominate athletes of the week. If you think they've had an exceptional performance email me at mark.daniels@townsquaremedia.com.
