Did you know that the Liberty Bell was NOT rung on July 4th, 1776 because the Declaration of Independence was neither signed nor proclaimed on that date? Do you realize that John Hancock was the only one of the 56 signers of the Declaration who actually signed it on July4th! And get this...both Jefferson and Adams, ex-presidents and signers of the Declaration of Independence, both died on July 4th in 1826, and just a few minutes apart! A third president, Monroe actually died on July 4th of 1831. I'm celebrating STRANGE July 4th facts this afternoon (Tuesday) on the Puffman Show when the guy from Ripley's Believe It or Not is my guest. He's Edward Meyer and Easy Ed has traveled around the world collecting unusual stories and unbelievable artifacts to fill Believe It or Not! books and museums. The man is a walking encyclopedia of information, some strange, some gross-but all true. The mysterious Meyer has acquired over 20,000 different museum artifacts, everything from a pin valued at $1 million dollars, to a two-trunked elephant, to Marilyn Monroe's lingerie, to Lee Harvey Oswald's mortuary toe tag, to a meteorite from Mars. The list is longer than John Polasky's nose! Editor of the famous Ripley's Believe It or Not! newspaper syndicated cartoon, producer of countless Ripley museum films, and a researcher for over 200 Ripley television shows, Meyer is one of my favorite guests and I encourage you to tune in this afternoon (Thursday) and meet this Ripley historian and raconteur, the man with the world's second best job! I've got the best one!
