Mary McNear...so she is! Mary is my special guest this afternoon (Thursday) at 4:35 on the Puffman Show & this USA Today & New York Times Bestselling author has written TWO wonderful novels (with a 3rd on the way! Several months back, I got up on the wrong side of my bed one morning & ended up living part of my day in reverse order. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I read her SECOND book FIRST & ended up reading her FIRST book second & it was still a delightful experience...they both stand alone. Hee 1st book is "Up at Butternut Lake" & her 2nd recently published is "Butternut Summer." Mary McNear not only introduced me to the town of Butternut Lake (out in Minnesota), but more importantly, some of the fascinating people who live there & call it home. I loved the books & Mary tells me that a 3rd is on the way! I seldom read novels but I found these books SO engaging & the characters SO believable & easy to relate to that I found myself looking forward to going home in the evenings after a busy afternoon on the Puffman Show & picking up where I left off & reading MORE! Thus to say, I started to fear coming to the end & having no more story to read. Luckily Mary has solved that with the promise of a 3rd due out in May. I found both books to be a great emotional read & a wonderful escape. How good are these? Even the cover design by Mumtaz Mustafa is fantastic & with a name like that, you know it has to be something! I strongly encourage you to check out both "Up at Butternut Lake" AND "Butternut Summer" from William Morrow-An imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers at major bookstores & Amazon. Visit www.harpercollins.com & then we'll visit with this wonderful author this afternoon. One of the best authors I have come across in recent years. She bases her novels on a lifetime of summers spend in a small town on a lake in the northern Midwest. I never thought I would say this being a "mainly non-fiction" reader, but these novels, in my opinion, were even better! I would put up Mary right up there with my hero, F.Scott Fitzgerald, so you know that I am impressed.  How much did I enjoy these books...(?)...I called Delta Airlines this morning to check on round trip air fare to Butternut Lake, Minnesota! See you later this afternoon when Mary McNear will be here.
