‘Motley Crue Day’ Declared in Las Vegas
In anticipation of the band’s upcoming Vegas residency — kicking off tonight (Feb. 3) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino — Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman has proclaimed today Motley Crue Day.
In what is being called the first-ever hard rock residency for the city, Motley Crue will perform four shows a week between Feb. 3 and Feb. 19, a span that includes the noted hard rock holidays Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine’s Day, and President’s Day. For the run of shows, which have been dubbed Motley Crue in Sin City, the band is promising “a never-been-done before and incredibly interactive Vegas experience.”
The Sin City shows kick off what Nikki Sixx has called “the beginning of what will be the biggest probably four to five years of the band’s career,” a period he promises will find the Crue exploring new horizons. “We’re negotiating with a couple of other extremely huge bands on doing a co-headline tour, something that’s never happened before,” he hinted during a recent Rolling Stone interview. “There’s new music in the future.”
Of course, during the same interview, Sixx admitted that the band has mulled the idea of retirement, saying “We’ve always said since we were kids we didn’t want to hobble in to the sunset. So after the movie, at some point – whether it’s within a year or a few years – we’re probably gonna have that conversation about maybe it’s time, maybe it’s time to go out on top.”
But drummer Tommy Lee seemed to suggest there was still plenty of life left in the band in a different interview, insisting that “there’s no reason we can’t keep doing this as long as some as our heroes like the Stones and Aerosmith, those guys are still rocking.”
Whatever the band’s long-term plans are, fans can look forward to plenty of hits and hard rock spectacle (not to mention a few unplugged moments) over the next few weeks in Vegas. Take a look at the Motley Crue in Sin City teaser reel below:
