MSU Extension Presents Young Producer Seminars

Montana State University’s Department of Agricultural Economics/Economics and Extension in collaboration with the Risk Management Agency, Montana Grain Growers Association (MGGA), Montana Stockgrowers Association (MSGA), and Pondera County Extension (Dan Picard, Extension Agent) are offering risk management education for limited resource and beginning farmers and ranchers in Montana.  This educational effort will provide continued education, leadership, and networking opportunities for participants.  This program will involve workshops at the upcoming MGGA and MSGA meetings in December and webinars throughout the year.  If you join this project, your membership dues and annual meeting registration for the MGGA or MSGA conventions will be paid by the project.  If you’re interested in joining this project, contact Dan Picard at 271-4054 dpicard@montana.edu or George Haynes at  994-5012 or haynes@montana.edu. 

 Here is some information on two important upcoming events:

The first event will be a series of workshops presented at the MGGA Convention in Great Falls from December 4^th through 6^th:

Session 1 – Production, Price and Revenue Risks in Grain Production (December 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – lunch included)

Session 2 – Production Decisions for Maximizing Farm Profitability (December 4, 1 to 5 p.m. (Presented by Agri-Trend Agronomic Advisors)

Session 3 – Risk Management Strategies for Non-Traditional Commodities (December 5, 10 a.m. to noon)

Session 4 – Futures Markets and Price Risk Management (December 6, 3 to 5 p.m.)

            The second event will be a series of workshops presented at the MSGA Annual Convention in Billings from December 13^th through 14^th:

Session 1 – Production, Price and Revenue Risks in Livestock Production (December 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – lunch included)

Session 2 – Futures, Options and Livestock Risk Protection (session with Young Stockgrowers, December 13, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.)

Session 3 – Pasture, Rangeland and Forage Insurance (session in Pfizer Cattlemen’s College, December 14, 3 to 4 p.m.)
