– VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS IN SHELBY YESTERDAY DIDN’T GETA LOT OF PERSONAL TIME TO CELEBRATE THE 4TH OF JULY.
AFTER HOSTING A COMMUNITY PICNIC, FIREFIGHTERS CALLED TO  A FIRE ON THE OLD UNDERDAL PROPERTY ALONG THE MARIAS RIVER IN SOUTHEAST TOOLE COUNTY AND ENDED UP THERE UNTIL AROUND MIDNIGHT.

FIRE CHIEF RON BUCK SAYS IT WASN’T FIREWORKS OR LIGHTNING BUT RATHER THE GENERATOR ON A WATER PUMP,  "THAT SEIZED,” CAUSING A BELT TO DISLOCATE AND START THE FIRE.

ABOUT 30 ACRES WERE BURNED AND DUE TO CONDITIONS, INCLUDING THE NUMEROUS COTTONWOOD TREES THAT CAUGHT FIRE, BUCK SAYS THE D-N-R-C (MT. DEPT. OF NATURAL RESOURCES) WAS CALLED TO ASSIST AND MADE NUMEROUS WATER DROPS WITH A
HELICOPTER.
THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND THE FIRE WAS FULLY CONTAINED BY MIDNIGHT.
BUCK SAYS THERE MAY BE SMOKE STILL COMING OUT OF THE FIRE
FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
