I am sorry to report this morning (Tuesday), that our friend Ken Overcast's home was destroyed by fire early Friday morning. Firefighters were summoned to the 100 year old Chinook home on Stockyard Road, about 1 mile south U.S. Highway 2 about 4 in the morning on Friday. The blaze was spotted by a passing Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train. The fire chief said because the fire was so intense, that there was no chance of saving the structure. He said that he had never seen a fire that bad. Thee were numerous musical instruments in the home. Ken says all of the records for his ranching business & his entertainment business were destroyed, as were a ton of family mementos. Overcast is the family archivist. Among the items destroyed were recording of this week's syndicated radio program is which broadcast on some 60 stations nationwide including our K 96 FM. Ken said the night before the fire, Thursday, his daughter, her husband, & 8 kids were there & would not have gotten out. The well-known entertainer was in Billings when he got the tragic call at 4:30 in the morning. He is now living with his son until other arrangements can be made. Overcast said that the extent of the damage makes it difficult to determine the exact cause but figures i must be some of an electrical nature. Our hearts go out to Ken & his family.
