Much was said in the news yesterday about the FCC and cellular carriers working together to see that phones reported stolen or missing are disabled. While they are working on that, the FCC put out a few tips to help you thief-proof your smartphone. Among them:

- Never leave a phone unattended in a public place.
- Write down the make and model of your phone, as well as the serial number and unique ID number, in case it's stolen.
- Make sure your phone is protected with a password.
- Consider displaying contact information on the screen that shows up when a phone is idle and locked. That way, someone finding a lost phone can reach its owner. I hadn't thought about that last one.
