Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the FWP Commission have extended the public comment period for a proposed settlement agreement that would provide public access to the Marias River Wildlife Management Area south of Shelby.

The agreement is between Wanken Farms and FWP and would allow public access to the Marias River WMA on the east side by way of the Lincoln Road.

The comment period, set in end in October, has been extended until Nov. 9, 2014. It will be brought to the Commission’s November meeting for final action. A public meeting, not yet scheduled, will be held, too.

The agreement is part of a negotiated settlement that would involve a transfer of about 483 acres to Wanken Farms.

Copies of the agreement are available at the FWP Region 4 office in Great Falls, 4600 Giant Springs Road, Great Falls, MT 59405, or calling the office at (406) 454-5840, or by visiting the public notice section of the FWP web site: http://fwp.mt.gov/

Comment on the agreement will be taken until 5 p.m., Nov. 9, 2014, and may be sent by email to Gary Bertellotti, gbertellotti@mt.gov or by mail to Gary Bertellotti, Region 4 Supervisor, 4600 Giant Springs Road, Great Falls, MT 59405.
