Queen Guitarist Brian May Joins The Darkness On Stage

YouTube.com

Queen guitarist Brian May joined The Darkness during the encore of the last date of the retro-rock outfit’s comeback tour at the Hammersmith Apollo last month — and now high-quality footage of the joint performance is available online. May joined the band for the Darkness tunes ‘Bareback and ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love,’ plus a cover of Queen’s own ‘Tie Your Mother Down.’

Some fan-shot videos had previously surfaced of this remarkable union, but the Darkness have just posted footage (watch it below) of ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love,’ which includes May’s highly complimentary intro. “I just want to say, how happy are we that The Darkness are back together and conquering the world again. How happy are we? How f—ing happy are we?” May shouts.

As the band launch into the mega-selling single, brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins seem to be dueling with May over the guitar parts, but when it comes time for the lead solo, May steps forward, shining through like the star that he is.

The band, which is often compared to Queen, seems absolutely elated to have one of their heroes on the stage with them. Always the jokers, Hawkins changes the lyrics and sings “I wanna kiss you every minute, every hour, every day / You got me in a spin but everything is: Brian May,” pointing the guitarist out, and gaining a thunderous applause.

After the show, Hawkins posted on his Facebook page: “Brian May joined us onstage for three songs. A dream came true for us tonight :) x x x.” Judging by this video, it was a dream come true for everyone in the venue.
