North central Montana was saddened this week when we learned that Betty "Jewel" Wolk passed away at the age of 86 last Saturday in Great Falls. I don't think any of us can hear about the yearly Montana Storytellers Roundup this weekend in Cut Bank without thinking about Jewel. Jewel, of course, was the founder of the Storytellers Roundup and I would look forward every spring to having her as a guest on my afternoon program during Storyteller's week. This weekend's Storytellers will honor Jewel, and so it should. Her life was all about sharing and giving back to the community and Montana. Jewel truly enjoyed life and I know that it is Jewel's hope that we all enjoy the Montana Storytelling Roundup this weekend. The last time I saw Jewel was last Christmas at the annual Christmas concert at St. Luke's Lutheran Church here in Shelby and I marveled as I sat at Jewel's table and watched her enthusiasm and appreciation for another community get together.
