Spring Athletes of the Week
Mother Nature finally allowed enough games to be played that we can finally name a couple of new athletes of the week. Our female athlete of the week has quietly performed in several small invitational events that were more or less just meant to get some playing time, but still, she hasn’t lost a single match in either singles or doubles. Michaela Gunderson a junior at Choteau. Previous to this past weekend she competed in unofficial events at Fort Benton and indoors at Meadowlark in Great Falls, in that matchup she won two singles matches and then teamed with Christine Funk and won two doubles matches. Head coach Carla May said this past weekend really was the first official event, the Poplar Invitational, in Great Falls and Gunderson again came away undefeated. Playing in the #1 singles division, the Choteau junior beat top seeds from Townsend, CJI, Fairfield, and Boulder to win the championship. Even though play has been limited this spring, junior Michaela Gunderson seems to have found her stride early.
Our male athlete of the week appears to be on target to accomplish big things on the track & field this spring. Fairfield junior Dawson Allen, in just one meet, has established himself as one of the best in the state in the sprints, the hurdles and the javelin. He has the sixth best time in the state in the 100m at 11.23. Allen is second in the 110m hurdles at 15.17 and in the top 15 in the javelin with a throw of over 166.04. Allen is also regarded as among the best athlete’s in the area in both football and basketball. Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week, junior, Michaela Gunderson of Choteau and junior Dawson Allen of Fairfield. The athlete of the week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our athlete’s with two free value meals each.
