Two talented three-sport athletes from Choteau and Fairfield are off to a fast start in Track and Field and they're our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week.

Choteau Senior Payton Durocher who had a horrendous end to the basketball season, when she broke her wrist in the semi-finals of that divisional tournament, is hoping for a better end to the track season. It has started well, in the opening meet last week, the Fairfield/Belt Invitational, Payton finished second in the 200M and was third in the 100M, she also ran on both of Choteau's winning relay teams, the 400M and the 1600M. Despite a second place finish in that 200M, she posted the third-best time in the state, to date, with 27.14, Zoey Delayney, the freshman, from Winnet-Grass Range won the race and has the second-best time in the state right now. Saturday was more of what I would consider a typical day for Payton as she won the 200M, 400M and was second in the 100M, also ran on both of Choteau's winning relay teams. Payton was a second place finisher in that state meet a year ago in the 400M and ran on Choteau's two-time state champion 400M relay team.

Our male Athlete of the Week is also off to a fast start, Senior Cantor Coverdell, the defending state champion in the triple jump won the event at the Fairfield/Belt Invitational with a jump of 44'7", which is the best jump in the state so far. Coverdell also won the discus and was second in the javelin in that meet. He came back on Saturday in Cut Bank, winning the long jump, did not compete in the triple jump for whatever reason, the discus and he won the javelin as well. In that meet, he racked up 30.5 points individually, leading the Fairfield boys to a runaway championship.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week; senior Payton Durocher of the Choteau Lady Bulldogs and senior Cantor Coverdell of the Fairfield Eagles. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our athletes with two free value meals each.

And we encourage fans, coaches, teammates and parents to nominate athletes of the week. If you think they've had an exceptional performance email me at mark.daniels@townsquaremedia.com.
