Talk About Involvement

The American Legion IS involved on a local, state, & national level, & this afternoon (Monday) at 2:30, Jim Fielder will be joining me on the Puffman Show. Jim is the Membership Consultant for Post Development & Revitalization for the Department of Montana & represents District 3 in the Department of Montana. This includes the towns of Browning, Cut Bank, Shelby, Sweet Grass, Conrad & Galata. Our American Legion volunteers at VA Hospitals, is involved in youth programs, educational programs (essays, oratorical contests, scholarships, Boys State), sports teams (Legion Baseball) & various community projects to name a few. One of the most important things the Legion does is provide an Honor Guard during the funeral of a veteran at the request of the family. This is not only considered a duty but a sacred honor. Another very important program is the service officers that the American Legion sponsors. These professionals provide advocacy to veterans when they apply for VA benefits. I have to tell you...this service is INVALUABLE. The Legion is a strong voice back in Washington & promotes National Security, Defense & veterans programs among others. Recent years have seen an increase in women joining the Armed Services of the US & serving in & returning from Iraq & Afghanistan along with other area. Jim & the Legion want these returning women Veterans to know they are just as eligible & welcome as their male counterparts. A number of posts have women veterans now.
