This month (August) marked the 60th anniversary of the first episode of "I Love Lucy" and in honor of Lucille Ball's 100th birthday on August 6th, Coyne Steven Sanders and Tom Gilbert have come out with a special anniversary edition of the book "Desilu." Sanders and Gilbert were granted exclusive access to family members, including daughter Lucie Arnaz, Lucy's second husband, Gary Morton, longtime Lucy co-star Gale Gordon, co-workers and close friends. I'll be talking with Sanders this afternoon (Wednesday) at 4:30 on the Puffman Show AND giving away a copy of the book, Desilu, which just went on sale the 2nd of this month. One of the most powerful couples of the Golden Age of Television, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz had what appeared to be a storybook romance. But off camera, their marriage was much more complicated and the demands of success eventually led to their divorce. I surmise that SHE drove HIM nuts and that HE had a red hot temper. Of course, that's only MY opinion but I AM the Puffman. I'll also talk with Sanders about Lucy's on-set tyranny and clashes with such stars as Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Jack Benny, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jayne Meadows, and longtime sidekick Vivian Vance, as well as such latter-day debacles as "Mame" and "Life With Lucy." And I thought I had a hard time getting along with people! I Love Lucy this afternoon at 4:30 with the Puffman.
