The saga of the lady doctor continues tonight (Tuesday) at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby. I'll be reading more Montana History this evening starting at 6 up at the Heritage Center. We're already into the 3rd chapter of the true story, "Pioneer Doctor-The Story of a Woman's Work" beautifully written and thoroughly researched by Mari Grana. Mari is the granddaughter of the lady doctor and it looks like this evening the doc is on her way to hang out her shingle in a mining camp in Bannack, Montana. I'm finding this to be not just the biography of a fascinating woman but also the story of an era when daring women ventured forth and changed history for the rest of us. It goes without saying that the times have changed, but after reading and enjoying the first few chapters, I had no idea how really different things were in the old days not only in the country but especially in the Frontier West. Looking forward to seeing you this evening for another reading of Montana History at the Marias Heritage Center. Yes, there really IS a doctor in the house...and she's a woman!
