Thursday Night Football Recap — Vikings Hold Off Redskins, 34-27

Washington Redskins v Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings scored 20 points in the second half and avoided a game-tying touchdown in the final seconds in a 34-27 win over the Washington Redskins in Minnesota on Thursday night.

Washington (3-6) had an opportunity to score a game-tying touchdown in the final minute, but Robert Griffin III’s fourth-and-goal pass into the end zone with 32 seconds left was caught by Santana Moss with only one foot in bounds.

Trailing 24-14 at the half, Minnesota (2-7) rallied in the third quarter. After a Kai Forbath field goal put the Redskins up 27-14, the Vikings surged ahead on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Christian Ponder to John Carlson and a 1-yard TD run by Adrian Peterson in the third quarter.

Two fourth-quarter field goals by Blair Walsh helped give Minnesota its eventual margin of victory.

Peterson finished with 75 yards rushing and two scores, while Ponder passed for 174 yards and two touchdowns before leaving with a shoulder injury late in the fourth quarter.

Griffin threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns for Washington. Redskins’ running back Alfred Morris carried 26 times for 139 yards. Pierre Garcon caught seven passes for 119 yards and a score in a losing effort.
