The Bible says that there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven. A time to be born, a time to die. Penn State football coach Joe Paterno's time came early yesterday morning (Sunday). The "official" cause of death is attributed to lung cancer that had metastasized to other parts of his body. His grim medical diagnosis came on the 18th of November, nine days after he got sacked from Penn State. Since his firing, Joe only did one interview and he was in a wheelchair wearing a wig. The old coach could barely whisper in that interview. They say Joe was never sure what his life would be like without football. One time when he was asked about the motivation for his longevity (he had a 61 year career at Penn State), he said, "I don't want to die. Football keeps me alive". Before his Hall of Fame induction back in 2007, he asked about the "perfect ending". His immediate response? "I want to die on the field". JoePa didn't die on the field but he only lived 85 days after his last game. There's a time to tear and a time to mend. In my opinion, there will come a time for the Penn State trustees to be judged for their actions. Lung cancer may have been the official cause of death yesterday morning, but many are saying that the man died of a broken heart. Coach Paterno will be buried Wednesday in Happy Valley, State College, Pennsylvania.
