Original, amusing, & brilliantly documented, Carli Davidson’s “Shake”, the hardcover released just this month (October) from Harper Design, is a heartwarming collection of 61 beguiling dogs caught in the most candid of moments; mid-shake. This glorious, graphic volume will stop you dead in your tracks as you are presented with images of man’s best friend caught in contortion: hair wild, eyes darting, ears & jowls flopping every which way. I’ve worked with a few folks like this. A few years back, Carli Davidson was just another young photographer. To make money she worked as a zookeeper; & because she is a fervent animal rights activist, she volunteered at shelters. In 2010, Carli purchased a high-speed shutter camera with the idea of combining her 2 passions. She began photographing rescue dogs in mid-motion, capturing their movements at a thirteen-thousandth of a second. The project was called “Shake” & pictures were posted on Facebook. They quickly spread virally, reposted over & over. “Shake” the book is the answer to countless fan requests. The world wanted MORE of Carli Davidson’s unique photos. 61 dogs were selected (I’m not sure why not 60 or 65 or some kind of a round number), & in this compilation 2 stunning photographs of each dog are featured side-by-side to capture the motion of their “shakes”. The Huffington Posts barks “A wet, shaking dog may be a common sight for pet lovers, but few have ever seen wet dogs captured quite like this”. Throw me a bone…I’m the Puffman!
