I couldn't believe an Associated Press article this morning that talked about an App for Android phones called "Dog Wars". The article says, "Players can feed, water, train and fight their virtual animals against others.  The app is created by Kage Games - and the Web site where the app can be downloaded stresses it is only a video game. " As a dog lover, I was immediately appalled by this "game", but after some thought, I wondered if I was being hypocritical. I seem to have no problem with video games that shoot people (preferably good guys getting bad guys), and I myself play a computer game where my sword rids a kingdom of the unscrupulous, which involves felling the occasional wolf or bear (but they attacked me first!) Still, I abhor dogfighting for sport...

I admit I was pleased to see among those speaking out against the game in the article was...wait for it...Michael Vick! The guy that lost some of his best NFL years to jail time for dogfighting! Michael released a statement on the National Humane Society website, saying he has "come to learn the hard way that dogfighting is a dead-end street." And now that he says he has changed his view of the bloodsport, people shouldn't glorify animal cruelty - "even in an Android app." To that, I say, 'Good for you, Michael!'
