One of the many things I enjoy about living & working here in the Golden Triangle during the Christmas season is all the great Christmas & holiday tunes I have a chance to play on the air. One of my seasonal favorites is the old standard "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve". I guess Nancy Wilson had one of the more popular recordings, but so many artists have done it through the years. My favorite is the rendition by my friend Don Cherry. If you're not familiar with Don, I suggest you "google" his name. Don's done it all, not to mention his biggest hit from the 50's, "Band of Gold". I recall watching the premiere episode of the hit TV program "Mad Men" several years back when Don's "Band of Gold" was used as the opening theme for the series. I knew right then that "Mad Man" would be a big hit! Don's still around & living in Vegas these days. I spoke with Don & his wife Francine Friday evening & Don's going to come on the Puffman Program this Monday afternoon around 3:30 to wish all of his fans here in Big Sky Country a "Merry Christmas". Looking forward to having Don with me on Monday, & in the meantime, you have to check out his version of "The Christmas Song" (the ol' chestnuts roasting on the fire). It's a smash! Everything Don does & has done is outstanding & he's done it all...records, television, nightclubs, written a book & even managed to be a world class golfer! Check out Don's website: doncherry.us. See you Monday with the "Band of Gold" guy. And as Don says on his "Christmas tune", "Merry Christmas everyone"!
