Daniel & Panayiota McCorkle are resting side by side west of Conrad these days but they've "alive & well" in the book we're currently reading up at the Marias Heritage Center here in Shelby. The biography of Daniel & Panayiota, "To Speak Of Love Was Not Enough" by Dorothy (Mrs. Louis) Floerchinger is a wonderful read, & THIS is Montana History at it's best! It's a saga of a period in time when our nation's moral conscience was being tested. Chaotic conditions brought about by man's selfish greed for money & power spawned a revolution necessary to call attention to neglected human needs. Too often it is remembered only that they oppressed laborer was struggling to organize. Yet many ministers like Daniel McCorckle added their voices in protest, though organized labor usually did not have the support of the established churches, probably because they in turn were reluctant to jeopardize the financial support of management. I'm looking forward to reading more Montana History & more on the McCorkles tonight (Tuesday) beginning at 6 o'clock SHARP at the Heritage Center.
