How much caffeine is in your cup of "Morning Joe"? Looking at the Center for Science in the Public Interest's data, I noticed a graphic measuring the amount of caffeine in various coffee chains' morning fuel. The data showed that the milligrams of caffeine per fluid ounce varies from chain to chain. McDonalds has 9.1 milligrams per fluid once, while Starbucks has 20.6 milligrams! Dunkin' Donuts came in between 2 & 12.7 milligrams. I note that there is a "Deathwish Coffee" out that comes in at a whopping 54.2!!! That ought to grow hair on your chest!. According to the Mayo Clinic, the average cup of this brewed brown liquid waker-upper has about 95 to 200 milligrams of caffeine (that's 16 to 34 milligrams per fluid ounce.. According to Mayo, for most healthy adults, moderate doses of caffeine would range between 200 to 300 milligrams daily which would work out to the equivalent of 2 to 4 cups. Results of too much caffeine include insomnia, nervousness, irritability, upset stomach, muscle tremors, & biting off the heads of your fellow co-workers! "They" say that caffeine affects early birds more & that caffeine drinkers may have lower blood pressure. Some studies suggest that caffeine levels in energy drinks are not always accurate & that caffeine is linked to low birth weight. How much coffee do you drink to get your day started AND how do you take your Joe? I like mine black...I'd like to hear from you on my Puffman Blog.
