Athlete of the Week
We have our 1st KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week for the new 2023 New Year and as the basketball season starts to settle in, we’re starting to see more eye-catching performances from local players.
Our Female Athlete of the Week has always been a great shooter but according to Head Coach Brandon Kavanagh she is now getting to the inside more and defenses have to respect her as more than just an outside shooter.
Cut Bank Sr. MacKenzie Johnson had 3 big games last week, not only on offense but defense as well. In a key conference game and her biggest of the week against Rocky Boy, Johnson nailed 5-3’S and scored 21 overall. She added 4 rebounds and 3 steals on defense. In the road game at class A Whitefish on Sat. Johnson scored 15 points and had an impressive 7 steals and 5 rebounds. Add 7 from the Choteau game and it was a 43-point week in which Cut Bank won all three games and improved their conference record to 3-1 and the overall record to 4-3.
Male Athlete of the Week honors go to Fairfield Sr. Tyson Schenck as the Eagles got big wins over 2nd place Shelby and Rocky Boy to up their Conference record to 4-0 and their overall record to 6-1.
The 6-3 Sr. had his biggest game of the year with 24 points and 4 rebounds in the win over Rocky Boy. Schenck averaged just over 14 points and 8.2 rebounds. Fairfield Head Coach Jordan Ratliff said the team and Schenck, played well in the 1st week of the New Year.
