Athlete of the Week
The start of the local high school sports season is a little rusty, but not this year as we had numerous local Athletes who turned in huge performances. Two of the biggest are, our KSEN/K96 - Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week.
We start with Volleyball where the Fairfield Eagles won the Championship of the season-opening tournament at Choteau with a 9-1-2 record. One of the teams they tied, they came back and beat for the Title....The Florence-Carlton Falcons. There were two exceptional individual performances from Jr. Aubrey Schubarth, the teams assist leader in the Tournament and Sr. Kenzie Allen, Fairfield's leader in kills and blocks. We gave the nod to the Sr. Kenzie Allen who had an amazing 62 kills in the Tournament and 7 blocks. Allen is the team's setter and middle hitter, and she came up big with the knockdowns for points and we didn't have a total number but in one of the wins over Manhattan she had 5 aces.
The KSEN Male Athlete of the Week choice might have been even tougher with a couple of outstanding performances on the football field. However, it was hard to argue with 8-tourchdowns, including the game winner for the CJI Hawks, 65-63 over Centerville. The amazing night for Hawks Jr. QB Ryland St. John came thru the air and on the ground as he ran the ball 16 times for 163 yards and 4 TD's. Add to that 13-21 thru the air for 241 yards & 3 TD's and you have the whopping total of 404 yards total offense. St. John also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD. We had two other nominations including Nate Gunderson who carried the ball 20 times for 229 yards and 3 TD's in Choteau's 38-6 win over Shelby and was outstanding at middle linebacker on defense. Also nominated, Chance Horn with 3 Td's and over 100 yards offense for Valier.
Congratulations to our first Athletes of the Week, Sr. Kenzie Allen of Fairfield and Jr. Ryland St. John from CJI. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. McDonald's honors our Athlete's with two free value meals each. KSEN encourages all Coaches, fans and parents to nominate an Athlete of Week. E-mail: markdaniels@townsquaremedia.com
