Athlete of the Week
It's rare, but our Male and Female, KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week both come from CJI H.S. where the Hawks finished up with outstanding seasons in both Football and Volleyball.
The Hawks Football team ended another strong season at 8-2 with their 2nd round playoff loss to defending State Champion Centerville 44-40. Despite the loss, Head Coach Jim Vinson says we had several players who had great games. Among them, our Athlete of the Week, Sr. Nate Nelson whose power and speed make him very difficult to contain, even against a "very tough opponent." At the end of the day, Nate carried the ball 15 times for 75 yards and 2 Touchdowns. He caught 3 passes for 74 yards and 2 more touchdowns. He's just as tough on defense, recording 13 tackles, including one for a loss and Oh Yeah, he completed 3 passes throwing the ball for extra points. We also had nominations for Cooper Streit who had 1 TD, 14 tackles and an interception and Fr. Levi Nelson who had a TD and 10 tackles. Do we see some similarities coming up?
Meanwhile the Lady Hawks were getting it done on the Volleyball court and came ever so close to a top two finish and a State Tournament berth. The young Hawks had several very strong performances such as libero Scarlet Sundgren's 33 digs against Fort Benton, Jayla Ramberg also had another strong Tournament, but when it came time to put it away, So. Brynn Kammerzell was the clear leader. Not only kills but the blocks were impressive. She had 4 in the opening match against Simms along with 9 kills and 3 aces with her powerful jump serve. Brynn continued to lead the way in the Fort Benton matchup with 12 kills, 2 blocks and 14 Digs. In the Semi-final against Top Ranked Belt, Kammerzell added 10 kills, 3 blocks, 12 digs and 2 more aces. The Hawks lost to Big Sandy Saturday in the 3rd place matchup and finished just out of the running for a State Tournament berth, but there's a lot of optimism for next season.
Congratulations to our KSEN/K96--Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the Week, Sr. Nate Nelson of CJI and So. Brynn Kammerzell of CJI. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald's in Cut Bank. They honor our Athlete's with two free value meals each.
