KSEN/K96 – BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S BOTH BRING A LOT OF ENERGY TO THEIR RESPECTIVE TEAMS AND IT’S RESULTING IN A LOT OF WINS AND HIGH SPOTS IN THE STANDINGS.

SUNBURST REFINERS HEAD COACH NATE ASCHIM SAYS HIS SR. GUARD STANLEY JARVIS HAS AN “ENERGY TO HIM,” THAT NEVER STOPS, HE’S ALWAYS MOVING, EVEN WHEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO SHOOT A FREE THROW. ONCE PLAY BEGINS HE REALLY ACCELERATES AND YOU CAN’T HELP BUT NOTICE THE SPEED.

JARVIS HAS BEEN THE REFINERS LEADING SCORER ALL SEASON LONG, AVERAGING 17 POINTS PER GAME HEADING INTO LAST WEEKENDS GAMES. HE SCORED 10 IN THE CENTERVILLE GAME AND 15 IN A KEY WIN OVER HEART BUTTE. WHILE HE DIDN’T HIT THE AVERAGE, ASCHIM SAYS THE REFINERS HAVE A PRETTY BALANCED SCORING ATTACK AND JARVIS HIT SOME HUGE SHOTS IN BOTH GAMES.

JARVIS HAS ALSO CHANGED HIS ROLE THIS SEASON, PLAYING MORE OF THE OFF-GUARD, FINDING HIS OPEN TEAMMATES WITH PASSES AND ASCHIM SAYS HE’S DOING A “REALLY GOOD JOB WITH IT.” HIS NOMINATOR THIS WEEK TOLD US THAT HE IS A “LEADER ON AND OFF THE COURT, AND HIS DRIVE, PASSION AND COMMITMENT TO THE TEAM IS UNMATCHED.” SUNBURST STILL SITS 3RD IN THAT 10C DIST. BEHIND HEART BUTTE AND SIMMS. PART OF THAT REASON THOUGH IS THEY HAVE PLAYED 3 LESS GAMES THAN HEART BUTTE DUE TO COVID-19.

OUR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS THE 1ST THIS SEASON TO RECEIVE THE AWARD FOR THE 2ND TIME. CHOTEAU SR. CHRISTINE FUNK LED THE LADY BULLDOGS TO TWO BIG CONFERENCE WINS OVER G.F. CENTRAL AND SHELBY AND SHE PLAYED A HUGE ROLE IN BOTH GAMES.

IN THE GREAT FALLS MATCHUP, FUNK HIT FOR 21-POINTS AND ADDED 6 STEALS AND 6 REBOUNDS AND EVEN A COUPLE OF DEFLECTIONS. THE NEXT NIGHT WAS EVEN BETTER AS SHE SCORED 24 AGAINST SHELBY WITH 4 -3-POINTERS, 6 REBOUNDS AND 3-STEALS. CHOTEAU HEAD COACH CARISSA JENKINS SAYS “SHE WAS OUTSTANDING IN BOTH GAMES OFFENSIVELY AND DEFENSIVELY, DESPITE PLAYING WITH A ROLLED ANKLE FROM A WEEK AGO AGAINST CONRAD.

THE TWO VICTORIES BOOSTED CHOTEAU TO A 7-1 CONFERENCE RECORD BEHIND ONLY FAIRFIELD.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK, SR. STANLEY JARVIS OF SUNBURST AND SR. CHRISTINE FUNK OF CHOTEAU. THE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS SPONSORED LOCALLY BY McDONALDS IN CUT BANK. McDONALDS HONORS OUR ATHLETE’S WITH TWO FREE VALUE MEALS EACH.
