Our KSEN/K96 Bozeman Trophy Female Athlete of the Week arguable saved her best game of the year for the district championship and our Male Athlete of the Week just continued to do what he’s been doing all season.

Our Male Athlete of the Week kept his record near-perfect, Cut Bank Junior, Austin Vanek rolled through last weekends’ Northern Divisional Wrestling tournament with four straight wins in a very efficient manner. Cut Bank head wrestling coach, Cody Fetters said, “he was expected to win, but the way he did it was pretty impressive”. Vanek won the 170-pound championship match over Kyle Denny of Whitehall by pin at two minutes into the match. That means he pinned his previous three opponents in a combine four minutes and won the tournament’s “Quick Pin” Award. Austin Vanek has been a dedicated wrestler throughout his high school career and in the off-season, continually working to improve his strength and skills in off-season tournaments. Heading into the Divisional he was ranked number one in his weight class with a twenty and one season record and he’s now twenty-four and one.

Our Female Athlete of the Week may have had her best game of the season in the 1B district championship against Choteau Saturday night. Fairfield first-year head coach Travis Schenk agreed that junior, Tori Jones made some really big plays in the Championship victory. She was the team’s leading scorer with seventeen points, including two for four at the free throw line in the championship game and Jones was especially strong in the second quarter with eleven points and the Eagles down at the time, by five.

“…knocked down to two”

Jones was also strong in the Friday night semi-final of the District, she averaged fifteen points for the two games, went five of eight from the free throw line and four rebounds, three steals each night.

Also nominated this week, Shelby senior Madison Underdahl who led Shelby to a third-place finish with 81 points in the Coyote’s four games. We were also told, that with the points in that tournament, Madison surpassed the thousand point mark for her high school career.

Congratulations to our KSEN K96 Bozeman Trophy Athletes of the week, junior wrestler, Austin Vanek of Cut Bank and junior, Tori Jones of Fairfield. Athlete of the Week sponsored locally by McDonalds in Cut Bank. McDonalds honors our athletes with two free value meals each.
