Mark asked me to do an athlete of the week. And so I have chosen as my athletes, Maggie Bender, the softball player for the Conrad Choteau softball team and Kyler Cassel for the Shelby golf team.

Maggie Bender had a pretty good week for the Conrad Choteau team who went one and three at the Lewistown tournament. Their one win was an 18 to 12 matchup over Colstrip. I didn't see any statistics for that game, but the statistics I did see in the Huntley Project win over Conrad/Choteau six to two Friday morning, Maggie pitched and struck out 16 Red Devils, but just didn't get enough offensive support there. Meanwhile, Lewistown beat Conrad in 11 to nothing in the second game. And it was just a one hitter there. In Conrad Choteau's loss to Shepherd 16 to 13 Saturday morning. Maggie had three hits, including a home run, so far this season in eight games Maggie is batting 455, 10 for 22 with 10 runs scored in 22 RBI. That includes two home runs, one triple and three doubles. So six of her 10 hits have been for extra bases.

I don't have a lot of numbers for Kyler Cassel of Shelby, but what I do know is in the two tournaments that Marias Valley so far, this season, while Jerrick Shepherd of Conrad has been the best golfer. Kyler Cassel has been the second best golfer at the tournament in Shelby. This past Friday, Jerrick shot a five over par 75. He was even better than that in the first tournament, but Kyler Cassel was second place by four shots on the field as he shot and 11 over par 83 and his first week performance was just about as impressive as well. So we're taking Kyler Cassel of Shelby golf and Maggie Bender of Conrad Choteau softball as our athletes of the week.

Congratulations to our KSEN/K96—Bozeman Trophy Athlete’s of the Week. The Athlete of the Week is sponsored locally by McDonald’s in Cut Bank. McDonald’s honors our Athlete’s with two free value meals each.
