The KSEN/Bozeman Trophy athletes of the week were gathered together last night at the Coyote Club and Events Center in Shelby. We were fortunate to have Scott Curry of Valier come to speak to the athletes and bring a little laughter to the banquet.

We had a great turnout and the evening was very enjoyable. See photos of our athletes and read about the finalists after the jump.

2016 Athlete of the Year Female Finalists

Dakota Dosch – senior – Cut Bank-   our only 3-time winner of the KSEN – Bozeman Trophy Athlete of the Week award this year and the number of those has been rare..    Also rare is a three- sport athlete who excels in each one.   She was 1st team all-conference selection in volleyball, 1st team all-conference and all-state in basketball and an all-state tennis player and contender this year for a state singles title.   She just won the “best of the west singles event in Missoula this past weekend.    Senior Dakota Dosch from Cut Bank.

Allie Steinbach – senior – Fairfield – our next finalist has played in 3 straight state b championship games, winning one and part of an incredible 120-game winning streak. She was a 1st team all-conference, all-state player in basketball and a leading member of the volleyball team that also qualified for the state b tournament.    In bb she averaged double figures and led the team in assists, steals, free throw percentage and 3-point percentage.    This spring she is a state-caliber hurdler and javelin thrower, senior Allie Steinbach from Fairfield.

Mariah Stoltz – senior – Valier – another rarity, our next finalist is an all-state competitor in volleyball, basketball and track.    She scored an incredible 1101 points in her 4-year bb career and hauled in 759 rebounds.   She is a state-caliber hurdler who has qualified for state 4 years in a row and placed at state 3 of those years.   She has been an all-conference pick 3 times in volleyball and 3 times in basketball, in addition to the all-state status this year.  In addition to all of that she has 12 academic all-state certifications and is the 2016 Valier class valedictorian, senior Mariah Stoltz of Valier.

Natalie Klinker – junior – Fairfield – our final finalist, is a two-time all-state performer in basketball.   She averaged in double figures with points and in rebounds with approximately 12 per game.    She is a relentless rebounder according to her head coach Dustin Gordon.  She too has played in two straight state b championship games  (1 more year to get the win)…she was also a 1st team all-conference pick, a big hitter, on the Fairfield volleyball team that also qualified for the state tournament.

And our 2016 KSEN/Bozeman trophy female athlete of the year (called to nominate her teammate and gave one of the most thorough, professional nominations i have heard all year)………………….senior Mariah Stoltz of the Valier Panthers.

2016 Athlete of the Year Male Finalists

Collin Achenbach – senior – Choteau - our first finalist is not a big athlete but he is big when he steps onto the field or the court or the course this year.   With all the success that he and his team have had in bb it’s sort of odd that he was picked as an athlete of the week in fb after stepping in to replace an injured starter.  We were totally impressed with his ability to throw and lead a team.   He was named to the 2015 all-state class b football team.   In bb, the accolades are endless.  He is a 4-year starter, named an all-state player his freshman and again as a junior and senior. He was a key figure in Choteau’s incredible 52-game winning streak and back to back state B championships.   He will play for Western Montana College on a basketball scholarship…….senior Collin Achenbach of Choteau.

Justin May – senior – CJI - we have heard his tremendous athletic ability, described in many ways over the past 3 years. Justin is a standout performer in football, basketball and track.    He is a 3-time all-state pick in football and had a combined 1527 yards rushing and receiving in the 2015 season.  He had combined rushing yards in his career of 3357.  He was picked to play in the e-w shrine game and named a great falls tribune super state football team defensive athlete. Also a 3-time all-state basketball player, he was a top 15 scorer among the entire state for 3 years in a row.   He’s also a 3 time state track qualifier and 12 times has been named academic all-state.    Senior Justin may – CJI

Chandler Allen – junior – Fairfield – our 3rd finalist for male athlete of the year was the kind of player that we expected to make some kind of an outlandish kind of play in every game.   He was a 1st team- all conference, all-state pick in football, a starter on the Fairfield basketball team and a state qualifier in the 100m dash in track.   He was a key member of the state b champion Fairfield Eagles football team…….junior, Chandler Allen of Fairfield.

And our 2016 male KSEN/Bozeman trophy athlete of the year is Justin May of the CJI Hawks.
