Athletes of the Week
THE CREAM IS RISING TO THE TOP AS LOCAL WRESTLERS AND BASKETBALL PLAYERS MUST BE SENSING THAT THE TOURNAMENT SEASON IS NOT FAR AWAY.
WE HAVE TWO EXCELLENT KSEN/K96—BOZEMAN TROPHY ATHLETE’S OF THE WEEK THIS WEEK FROM VALIER AND CUT BANK.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS GO TO CUT BANK SR. JAYCEE FRYDENLUND WHO NOT ONLY HAD A BIG SCORING WEEKEND BUT ACCORDING TO COACH BRANDON KAVANAGH CONTINUES TO BE ONE OF THE MOST CONSISTENT PERFORMERS ON A TEAM THAT HAS NOW PLACED THEMSELVES IN THE TOP ECHELON OF THE 1B DISTRICT.
FRYDENLUND WAS BIG IN THE 4TH QUARTER OF CUT BANK’S 46-45 WIN OVER FAIRFIELD WITH 10 OF HER 13 POINTS IN THE 4TH QTR. IT WAS A HUGE WIN AS THE CUT BANK FAITHFUL BELIEVE THE LADY WOLVES HADN’T BEAT FAIRFIELD IN THE LAST 12 YEARS.
JAYCEE FOLLOWED UP THE FAIRFIELD GAME WITH 19 AGAINST CONRD INCLUDING 10-11 FROM THE FREE THROW LINE. SHE IS CUT BANK’S BIGGEST 3-POINT THREAT AND A SOLID BALL HANDLER WHO ALONG WITH JAZMINE SPOTTED BEAR, RARELY EVER LEAVES THE GAME.
OUR MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK IS HAVING A SOLID YEAR ON THE MATS AT VALIER WHERE HE HAS NOW COMPILED A 33-9 RECORD. 1ST YEAR HEAD COACH CLAYTON GERNAAT SAYS JR. BRETT MONROE “IS STRONG AND HE’S WORKING HARDER THAN EVER.” THAT COMBINATION HAS LED TO A #2 RANKING IN THE STATE B/C COACHES POLL AT 205-LBS. HE FINISHED IN THE TOP 3 IN TOURNAMENTS AT HAVRE AND GLASGOW BEFORE WINNING THE CUT BANK INVITATIONAL AND LAST WEEKENDS’ HARLEM INVITATIONAL.
MONROE ALSO HAD A 3RD PLACE FINISH IN THE CHOTEAU CLASSIC AFTER LOSING A CLOSE MATCH TO THE #1 RANKED WRESTLER FROM FLORENCE IN THE SEMI’S.
ALSO NOMINATED THIS WEEK TEIA LACKNER FROM VALIER AFTER A 27-POINT GAME AGAINST GREAT FALLS CENTRAL AND CUT BANK WRESTLER AUSTIN VANEK, A FRESHMAN WHO ALSO WON THE HARLEM INVITATIONAL AND TOOK THE QUICK PIN AWARD THERE.
